Happy Days! The End is Near!
Congratulations! We have almost made it to the end of the school year and we are now deeply involved in our final unit which is employment skills. This unit introduces our students to the world of careers and we have an exciting method of delivery. All four 6th grade classes will be participating in our model business. The first part of the process will be educating the students on the application process. Students will view different applications with common errors and learn to pick out what those mistakes are before filling out their own application. They will research what qualifications will be needed in order to obtain certain positions using the computer and job websites such as Monster.com. They will also be filling out both a paper application and one that is online. Students will need to have all of the information they collected from their research. Then they will audit each others applications and make sure they are free from mistakes before they are uploaded to their individual e-portfolios for grading. We are looking for creativity and ingenuity in this assignment along with accurate research.
We will be using the SELECT process which stands for:
S Scan the entire application
E Emphasis the important key words
L Locate specific areas that needs to be filled
E Enter the necessary information
C Check over the completed information
T Turn into the appropriate person
The SELECT method helps make clear the individual steps to filling out a successful application.
